                 Current Research

Using molecular techniques to answer questions about how habitat loss, fragmentation, and isolation has impacted the genetic diversity, structure, and reproductive strategies of the endangered ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) in the central highlands of Madagascar.

New York University's

Molecular Anthropology Lab

All molecular analyses were performed at NYU's Molecular Anthropology Laboratory. Laboratory protocols include,  DNA extraction from feces, PCR ampilification, sequencing, and microsatellite genotyping.

              Future Directions

Future research collaborations and conservation initiatives: 1) expanding data collection to additional forest fragments and sites containing L. catta, 2) incorporating satellite imagery to obtain information on past and current deforestaton, 3) long-term data collection and monitoring  at the three main study sites in south-central Madagascar, and  4) continue conservation presence and work closely with already established local community associations on in situ conservation programs and initiatives.
