The Anja Community Reserve (21°51’12 S 46°50’40 E) is approximately 34 ha with a population density of 6.6. lemurs/ha. This site is comprised of mixed xerophytic, deciduous vegetation, and large granite outcrops. Anja is situated adjacent to Route Nationale 7, 12 km. south of the town of Ambalavao, and is a frequent tourist destination (Cameron and Gould, 2013). The eastern edge of the fragment is lined by large rock formations, which lie roughly 350m from the edge of the reserve (Google Earth 2012).

The Tsaranoro Valley Forest (22°05’11 S 46°46’ 14 E) is approxmately 46 ha and lies 55 km SW of Ambalavao and east of Andringitra National Park, which also hosts populations of wild ring-tailed lemurs. Tsaranoro's forest composition is also comprised of mixed xerophytic, deciduous vegetation, and large granite outcrops. In compariosn to Anja; Tsaranoro contains a much smaller population density, 1.1 lemurs/ha 
(Cameron and Gould, 2013).

Sakaviro (21°47. 019’ S 046°52.077’ E) is approximately 14 ha and has a population density of 2.1/lemur/ha (Gould et al., in prep). Sakaviro is located approximately 12 km north of Anja, and like both Anja and Tsaranoro is comprised of rocky-outcrop and xerophytic vegetation. This reserve was established in August 2012.
